Planner Flip Thru Using Desert Dream Paper Pad
Hey there!
Sundays are for planning in my house. I make a whole evening of cutting papers, pulling washi tape, changing out dashboards and of course, writing in appointments.
I have two planners. One is my newly acquired Petals and Blooms planner from Hobby Lobby and the other is my not so new but still new Happy Planner that I picked up at Michaels. One is for my daily carry around use, the other stays at home and contains the secrets of the universe - well, the secrets of my universe anyway.
Both planners get the love and attention that they need but every now and then, I give myself a challenge with my planners. I find a theme or paper pattern and task myself with decorating my planners with only that theme or those patterns. Most of the time it's pretty easy but when you give yourself a paper pad only challenge, well, it's gets a little trickier.
I saw this Desert Dream Recollections paper pad at Michael's and left it on the shelf 5 or 6 times. It's pretty but do I really need a desert paper pack? Mustard yellow, cactus green, desert clay reddish brown and void of ocean blue? Did I really need those colors in my life? After circling this paper pad way too many times, I decided yes, I did need all those colors in my life.
I pulled several sheets from the paper pad (that I picked up during a $5 sale. Never, EVER pay full price for a paper pad unless it is rare and priceless and your heart can't wait 2 or 3 weeks for it to go on sale. If that's the case, you should plan better and only pick up rare paper pads a few times a year). I wanted to make sure that I had enough coverage for two planners. I did end up pulling 2 more pages later because I needed variety and it was kinda hard to keep to paper pad only!
I did allow myself the accouterments of the trade. I used white out, a Staedtler Pigment Liner in .5, my tweezers and a hole punch, two hole punches actually.
For the most part, I let some pictures and journaling spots speak for themselves. I always say that a good paper pad has pretty plain paper, pretty designed paper, pictures that can be used whole or as cutouts, actual cutouts for journaling spots and inspiration cards, pages with washi tape like lines and themes that can be used a variety of ways. This Desert Dream paper pad ticked all the boxes.
I have to admit that by the end of this planner game, my hand ached to use some washi or a pretty sticker from my stash but I resisted. I used all portions of the paper in order to accomplish the look and feel of washi tape and embellishments. I covered numbers in very clever ways and because one of my planners didn't begin until July but I wanted to use it sooner, I even created an entire month from another month! I Frankensteined my way to a June in my "starts in July" planner!
All in all, it was pretty fun. Now I know that when I am stumped for planner decorating ideas (like that will ever happen!) I can do a paper pad only layout.
