DIY Watermelon Lip Scrub
Hey there!
I have to admit that this post is really all for me. I'd love to be able to tell you that I thought of you guys but I needed some lip scrub and didn't have the time (or inclination) to run to Lush. So, I googled lip scrub recipes.
What is a lip scrub? Well, it's an exfoliant for your lips. Why do you need a lip scrub? When your lips are dry, cracked and you can't wear lipstick or lip gloss on your lips, it's time to exfoliate.
I decided to keep with this week's watermelon theme and instead of a strawberry or mint lip scrub, I'd go with watermelon. I ran to Michael's and picked up a pack of watermelon flavoring. Yes, I used my 60% off coupon so it was $2.39 for this two pack. It was all they had so I'll be making quite a lot of watermelony things.
The other ingredients that you need are sugar and olive oil. I used the 3 to 1 ratio for mixing - 3 parts sugar to 1 part oil. Because I was only making 1 container of scrub, I used 3 tbsp of sugar and 1 tbsp of oil. I just mixed them together and added 2 drops of flavoring. I could have gone with three, no problem.
Warning! Use light extra virgin olive oil. While 2 - 3 drops of watermelon flavoring will mask the taste of olive oil, it won't take it away completely. The lighter the oil, the less you will taste it.
Yes, taste it. You will wet your lips with water, take a finger full of scrub and rub it across your lips. I rub for about 30 - 45 seconds and then use a clean, wet towel to wipe off the scrub. But, you will still taste it on your lips. That's ok! It's all edible products.
Once you have used your new lip scrub, I'd advise slathering on some ointment of some sort (I used Aquaphor but that's just me) and let the healing begin. Remember, you just scrubbed away a layer of skin.
Can I tell you how easy and fun this was?! Can't you see packaging this all nice and pretty, adding a gift tag and/or a recipe and giving this as a gift? I'd love a nice pampering gift like this from a friend.
Let me remind you that I am not licensed to create edible/wearable things for your face, so I don't suggest giving it as gifts to anyone other than your close friends and family. BUT, my close friends and family will certainly be getting lip scrub next week!
