Tombow Dual Brush Pen Art Markers, Grayscale Review
I have the hardest time finding individual gray markers. If I buy a set of markers, yes, they usually have a gray in the set. Then, I use it the most and when it's out of ink, I don't have a gray marker left.
And, if I want a gray that slightly lighter than black or a black that's not as black as normal, I come up with the same color gray all the time. Why aren't there shades of gray?
So when I saw this Tombow Dual Brush Pen Art Markers Grayscale set, I got excited! It meant that I'd have spare gray markers without having to purchase 7 or 8 other colors.
I must be honest. I didn't buy these to color and draw with them as other folks probably did. So, I can't tell you how they blend or anything like that. I enjoy writing with grey pens. I prefer grey over black when it comes to taking notes. When I write in my planner or journals, I like using these. Gray is simply not as harsh as black pens.
The normal price of these markers are $26.99. I got mine from Binder's Art Supply for $19.99. You could get them cheaper if you catch them on sale at your local craft store. And insert disclaimer here, I purchased these with my own money and no one is giving me anything for my review.
My marker set came with 9 markers and a blending pen. Each marker has 2 sides; a brush tip and a fine tip. The makers are water-based and claim to be orderless and blendable.
Like I said before, I can't comment on the blendable part. I don't really blend them. I can confirm that they are odorless. That is important because there are some markers that have an odor that is so strong they will give you a headache. You don't have to worry about that with these.
Two of the Tombow markers are shades of black. N25 is Lamp Black and N15 is Black. Black is slightly darker than Lamp Black. If you are using the fine line side, they both work very well when you need a black pen. If you are using the brush side you can see the difference ever so slightly.
All the way to the other extreme are the very light Tombow markers. N95 is Cool Gray 1 and N89 is Warm Gray 1. You can certainly see that one leans toward the blue side and the other gray.
In the middle are cools 10, 7, 6, 5 and 3. They are all great shades of gray in my opinion. 6 leans blue like 1 does. I can certainly use them well in my Happy Planner.
Mentioning my Happy Planner, I pulled a page from May and wrote with the brush tip and the fine line. I also used the brush tip on the lighter colors to shade in the boxes. Whaaaaat?! Isn't that cute?! I love it!
According to the Tombow Dual Brush Pen Color Tracker there are 3 other grays that I don't own. They fall under the category of "I gotta get my hands on these!!!".
So, in a nutshell, I love this purchase. It was totally worth every penny in my opinion. I have used them so many times since I bought them a few weeks ago. If you are wondering if you should purchase this pack, yes, yes, yes!!! Will I purchase other Tombow Dual Brush Pens?
