Did You See The Royal Wedding?
Hey there!
If you are like me, you watched the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle this past weekend. I’d love to say that I woke up at an ungodly hour in order to watch the festivities but honestly, I never went to sleep! I finally gave in at 2:30 a.m. ET and watched the Skynews stream on YouTube.
The timeline of the royal wedding was as follows (roughly)…
9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. GMT - Guests begin to arrive
11:20 a.m. GMT - The Royal family arrives
12:00 p.m. GMT - Wedding ceremony begin
1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. GMT - Their Royal Highnesses, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s carriage ride around Windsor Town
Afterwards there was a formal reception at St. George’s Hall and then later a private evening reception at Frogmore House.
So, if you didn’t stay up, get up or watch the festivities, what did you miss? Well, let me tell you.
The first announcement that caused me to stop pretending to sleep and get ready for the event was the announcement that the lovely couple will be known as Their Royal Highnesses, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
After the announcement the guests started pouring in. I enjoyed seeing the friends and family of the Duke and Duchess. Many times you watch people flow in for an hour and you have no idea who they are. This time, I knew many of the guests. That was nice to see.
The HATS! Yes, they were so beautiful. Such pretty yellows, fuchsias, and creams -- They looked wonderful. I was so awed that I didn’t take pictures of a ton of them but they were so colorful.
Once the hats were all in seats, the royal family came in. They looked magnificent too. The Queen was spectacular in her green and purple. And, Prince Philip made an appearance looking dapper.
The Duchess' mother looked beautiful. When I saw her I bawled. To think, she raised a princess. Sighhhhh.
Reverend Michael Bruce Curry delivered an address at the wedding. It was a rousing address that I’m use to at weddings.
The Kingdom Choir (with gospel leader Karen Gibson at the helm) gave a beautiful rendition of Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me”. Karen Gibson said that she created the choir “In response to a request from the BBC, who needed a choir for a special program they were broadcasting." They also sang at the Queen’s Golden Jubilee.
But, the wedding's 19 year old cellist, Sheku Kanneh-Mason, stole the musical show. He played three songs as the bride and groom, along with Prince Charles and the brides mother, stepped away to sign their marriage register. Sheku was named BBC Young Musician of The Year in 2016. It was a very moving set and we know why he received that honor.
But the stars, oh the stars of the show -- Prince Harry and Meghan Markle looked at each other and pledged their love for each other. You could see the love in their eyes! I wiped away a lot of mascara at that point.
Yes! I was in full makeup and a fascinator! I also had a glass of champagne (sparkling rosé actually). It was a special occasion.
The dress was a magnificent Claire Waight Keller for Givenchy. She also wore a 100 year old, Queen Mary Tiara Bandeau borrowed (we think? Gift? maybe?) from the Queen. It has been worn by Princess Margaret.
I adored the ceremony and I wish the couple much happiness and all of the love in the world!
